Jean-Marc Autran, whose father & grandfather before him were wine growers, & his wife Sophie, cultivate 30 hectares of vines in Sablet & Gigondas. The 40 year old vines are manually harvested in whole bunches, then spend 1 month in tank & 70% is aged in concrete tanks with 20% in one-season-old oak barriques & 10% in new oak barriques. Bottling is without filtration. This is a robust, well-balanced aromatic wine with liquorice, red fruits & spice; a savvy alternative to the expensive Chateauneuf du Pape.
